AN urgent recall has been issued for a vase that could potentially explode after safety experts found that the glass "may spontaneously break”.

The blue-coloured flower vase, which was on sale in Next stores across Ireland and online in recent months, has been pulled from shelves as a result of the dangerous fault.

The country’s consumer watchdog has called on customers “to dispose of the vase immediately” as there are fears it could injure someone if it breaks spontaneously.

There are approximately four affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: “Next Retail (Ireland) Ltd is carrying out a recall of Blue Core Vase.

“The risk associated with the product is that of injury. The vases may break spontaneously.”

The product recall alert continues: “The brand is Next. The item number is 351715. The batch numbers are QE8606516 / QE8606503 / QE8608624.

“Customers are asked to dispose of the vase immediately.

“Customers will receive a full refund within the next 5-10 working days by the method in which they paid. If customers have given any of these items as a gift, please ask the recipient to dispose of the item safely.”

Impacted punters are being urged to contact Next Ireland to arrange a refund.

In a statement, Next Ireland apologised “for any disappointment and inconvenience” the recall may cause customers.

The retail firm said: “It's come to light that there's a potential problem with three contracts/batches of this vase where the glass may spontaneously break.

“As the blue core vase doesn't meet our usual high quality standards, we've taken the precaution of recalling them, and request that you dispose of your vase immediately.

“You will receive a full refund within the next 5-10 working days by the method in which you paid.

“Please contact us to arrange a full refund. If you have given any of these items as a gift, please ask the recipient to dispose of the item safely.

“We're very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience this may cause.”
